Riccardo Savinelli   Viola

 

He graduated at the ‘Conservatorio Guido Cantelli’ in Novara. At the early age he took part in several competitions for young musicians winning different prizes (Competition ‘Aulòs’ in Rimini, ‘Vittorio Veneto’).

He joined the Youth Orchestra of Vicenza as principal viola developing the orchestral repertoire with Leon Spierer (Principal

Violin of Berliner), and the instrumental repertoire with Jody Levitz.He studied at the ‘Accademia Stauffer’ in Cremona under Bruno Giuranna. He subsequently moved to Belgium and earned a Master degree in Viola at the University ‘Hogeschool Gent, Département Muziek en Dramatische Kunst’ in Gent under the celebrated virtuoso viola soloist Michael Kugel.

He founded the string quartet ‘Brioso Quartet’ which played for the major Belgian institutions and participated to the International Competition for String Quartet ‘Wedstrijd Strijkkwartet’ (Gent, Belgium) winning the second prize.

In parallel, he got the degree in philosophy at the ‘Amedeo Avogadro University, Department of Literature and Philosophy’ of Vercelli (It), with Prof. Livio Bottani, with a thesis of Philosophy of Music on Vladimir Jankélévitch.

He undertook postgraduate courses and masterclasses with S.Braconi (Principal Viola of ‘Teatro alla Scala’), D. Waskiewicz (Principal Viola of ‘Orchestra Mozart’, Bologna), G. Karni (Principal Viola of Tonhalle Orch. Zurich).

He has been invited as principal viola in several orchestras like the ‘Camerata Strumentale’ of Prato, the ensemble ‘I Fiamminghi’ (concerts in Belgium and Germany), the ‘Orchestra of Tilburg’ (concerts in Belgium, Holland), "I Solisti Aquilani", "Colibrì Ensemble", and has also collaborated with the orchestra of  ‘Teatro Lirico’ in Cagliari, "Symphonica Italiana", "Orchestra Leonore" Pistoia, "Orchestra Settimane Musicali di Stresa", “Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia” in Rome, playing with conductors like Noseda, Maga, Barshai, Maazel, Pappano.

 

He has played in different chamber ensembles in music festivals organized by ‘Teatro Coccia di Novara’, ‘Fondazione Guido Cantelli di Milano’, ‘Accademia dei Cameristi di Bari’, ‘Settimane musicali di Stresa’, ‘Festival di Spoleto’, ‘Festival di Portogruaro’, ‘Festival Musica sull’acqua di Colico’, ‘Auditorium Conciliazione Roma’, "Guggenheim Foundation" Herford (D), collaborating with musicians like E. Pace, K. Bogino, P. Vernikov, A. Oliva, A. Dresler, R. Christ, G. Geminiani, A. Allegrini.

He has been called by Alessio Allegrini (Principal Horn of ‘Accademia Santa Cecilia’, Rome) to take part in the project of the Human Rights Orchestra (under the musical direction of Alessio Allegrini this Orchestra is the first major initiative of Musicians for Human Rights: the HRO performs to raise awareness of human rights issues and to raise funds to support effective grassroots organizations).

In 2004 won the place for Principal Viola of Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma, place he has held for ten years.

Recorded as soloist the Concert for string trio and Orchestra by Ghedini for Naxos. 

He collaborated with the renowned ensemble Spira Mirabilis. With this ensemble he has performed in Italy, Germany (Bremen Fest, Frankfurt) and UK (Queen Elizabeth Hall, London).

He is also interested in contemporary music and new musical languages, he participated to different project realized by “She Lives” in Rome.

In 2013 he played the monumental Second String Quartet by Morton Feldman (6 hours) with the Black Mountain String Quartet for the Swiss Institute in Rome.

He wrote articles on music and philosophy for the musical revue ‘Allegro con brio’.

Book addicted, he wrote some novels published by Giulio Perrone Editore.
